The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been started in the year 1998. The department has successfully completed seven sponsored research projects, funded by DRDO-EPRIP, TNSCST, NRB, UGC-DAE, AICTE – RPS, National Institute of Ocean Technology with a total grant of Rs.80 lakhs.
Currently, there are 3 doctorates in the department and several staff members are pursuing Ph.D. degree at Anna University. In addition to the existing laboratory facilities prescribed by the Anna University curriculum, the department has 7 special equipment worth Rs.18 Lakhs exclusively available for research activities.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering received the "Teaching Awards in Engineering" from Staffordshire University, UK and Education Matters.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering encourages students to participate in National and International conferences, symposia, and workshops to enhance their knowledge. Additionally, industrial visits are arranged periodically for students to research centers and establishments such as FORD India Ltd, Ashok Leyland, ADDISON Co. Ltd, Hinduja Foundries, ICF, Carborundum Universal Limited Factory, Kaleesuwari Refinery Private Limited, and the Meteorological Observatory in Meenambakkam, Chennai to gain practical experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering regularly conducts a value-added course on “CREO & CATIA” in collaboration with CADDAM Technologies to enhance student’s technical skills. The department also conducts Guest Lectures on Recent Trends in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Materials and Nanotechnology, IC Engines, Professional Ethics, and Total Quality Management. Eminent persons from Industries and Universities deliver these lectures.
In the current academic year 2022 – 2023, Students are placed through campus placement in core companies like Delphi-TVS Technologies, TVS Sundaram Fasteners, NVH Indian Auto Parts Private Limited, NVH Korea, Engineers India Private Limited, SPEL Semiconductor Limited, Foxconn, Thinksynq, Toppr, Nettyfish Networks and so on.
